From manufacturer Rudolf Gutmann’s siezed collection, the MAK acquired a finger ring and a paper knife in 1942, a golden box in 1943, and a key, a little case, four pieces of furniture, as well as 27 textile objects in 1944. The golden box was already re-exchanged in 1943. In 1947, the paper knife was restituted, in 1948, 33 further objects were handed back to Rudolf Gutmann. Two textile objects remained at the MAK as loans.
On 22 June 2004, the Advisory Board decided that the Art Restitution Law did not apply to Rudolf Gutmann’s two loans at the MAK.
Both textile objects were given back to the Gutmann family the same year.
